DERMAL FILLERS

As we age not only does our skin lose its elasticity and wrinkle, but our face loses its natural youthful volume. These changes occur as a result of loss of fat stores and remodelling of the facial bones, meaning our ageing face actually changes shape very slightly. This leads to bags under the eyes, hollowing of the cheeks, a downward turn to the lips, puppet lines around the chin, and deep grooves running from the nose to the lips, loss of a defined jaw line and jowls.

WHAT ARE FILLERS

(Juvederm Ultra®, Juvaderm Voluma®)

Dermal fillers are temporary and dissolvable because they are made up of Hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that naturally exists in your body. It is a sugar molecule found in nearly all living organisms. Because of its unique properties hyaluronic acid is one of the most studied molecules in medicine. Not only does it lubricate joints and acts a shock absorber but it binds water which creates volume within the skin and tissues as a result. This water binding ability is what we utilise to smooth out wrinkles and lines.

Juvederm Ultra®, Juvederm Voluma® ranges

The filler products that Dr MacDonald uses are not derived from animal products. The result of a single treatment can be seen instantly and can last for up to 15 months depending on the area and the type of filler used. Dermal fillers are prescribed medications and the type used will depend on your unique requirements.

WHAT FILLERS DO

Dermal fillers can be used to smooth away facial lines and wrinkles, create fuller lips, shape facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, and revitalise the skin.  They are injected under the skin where they act to hold water and gently smooth away unwanted lines and wrinkles.  Using an advanced technique, precise areas of the face are targeted to create a more youthful appearance.
